Henry Crocombe celebrated a hat-trick for Sussex as they bowled out Somerset at Hove.
The seamer took the last three wickets to fall to dismiss the visitors for 202 on day one in the Rothesay County Championship division one match.
He completed the hat-trick as Jack Leach edged behind to John Simpson, giving him figures of 5-56.
Crocombe and Sean Hunt (3-31) did the bulk of the damage.
And Sussex pulled things back impressively after Somerset had reached 191-5.
Sussex have signed Joey Evison for the rest of the season ahead of a more permanent deal.
The seam-bowling all-rounder made his debut and was introduced as second change.
Evison, 24, is on loan from Kent for the five remaining matches this term ahead of a permanent move on October 1.
Meanwhile Freddie Price has signed a rookie contract for the 2027 season.
The 19-year-old all-rounder and former pupil at Millfield School impressed in the recent Metro Bank One-Day Cup.

However, George Thomas is moving to Worcestershire at the end of the season.
Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace said: "George is a player I would have loved to have kept at Hove.
"I explained a couple of months ago that because of our financials issues we would not be able to offer him a new contract.”
