Social care staff have been shortlisted for national awards.
West Sussex County Council social care teams are in the running for the Social Worker of the Year Awards, with four individuals and one multidisciplinary team recognised across categories spanning adults’ and children’s services.
Councillor Sam Raby, cabinet member for children, young people and learning, said: "Being shortlisted for these prestigious awards is a wonderful achievement and reflects the life-changing difference our social workers make every day.
"Whether supporting children and families through difficult circumstances or helping people find stability and hope, they demonstrate professionalism, empathy and a steadfast commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes.
"This recognition is thoroughly deserved, and I am delighted to see their work celebrated."
The shortlisted team and individuals include the adults’ services Quality, Practice and Service Development Team; children’s social worker Rangeley Shallis-Barnes; newly qualified children’s social worker Shona McLaughlin; mental health social worker Karen Golding; and adult services leader Jennifer Benbow.
Ms Shallis-Barnes was recognised for her dedication to supporting families and young people with additional needs and neurodivergence.
Ms McLaughlin, who completed her apprenticeship last summer, was nominated for her compassionate and child-centred practice.
