Work is set to begin on a transport improvement scheme aimed at boosting bus reliability and safety.
The project, focused on Newhaven and funded through the Department for Transport’s Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP), will see upgrades along The Drove and Seaford Road to reduce congestion and improve service consistency.
Cllr Peter Griffith, East Sussex County Council’s lead member for transport and environment, said: "These measures will help improve the bus network in the area, providing a more reliable service for residents, reduce journey times and delays and, as a result, encourage a more sustainable alternative to car use.
"The Newhaven Denton Corner scheme will also improvement pedestrian and cyclist safety and improve visibility for road users and pedestrians."
The scheme will be delivered in three phases to minimise disruption, with the first starting on Tuesday, September 1.
Phase one focuses on the Seaford Road, Mount Road and Avis Road areas and will include the construction of a new bus lane, upgraded bus stops and improvements to traffic signals.
Later phases will complete the remainder of the bus lane improvements and address surrounding infrastructure.

The final phase will require a temporary closure of the Mount Road bus loop to allow for work to be completed on road connections, traffic signals, footways, cycle facilities and landscaping.
Traffic management and diversion routes will be in place throughout the duration of the works, and some overnight road closures will be needed for resurfacing.
Details of these closures will be publicised once confirmed.
The improvements at Newhaven Denton Corner are part of a wider transport investment programme designed to give residents greater confidence in choosing the bus for everyday journeys.

The BSIP programme is funded by the DfT specifically for the delivery of bus service improvements.
