Henry Crocombe made Sussex history as he took another hat-trick after ending their 25-year wait.
The highly-rated England Lions seamer followed his treble-strike against Somerset last week with another as the county skittled Essex at Chelmsford.
Sussex went 25 years between County Championship hat-tricks, since Jason Lewry achieved the feat back in 2001.
The county confirmed Tony Buss in 1965 was previously the only man to take two hat-tricks in the same season for the club.
But Crocombe's back-to-back matches and the Championship double are both firsts for Sussex.
Crocombe, who will join Surrey at the end of the season, helped dismiss Essex in their first innings for 177 in an incredible collapse after they had reached 171-3 in reply to Sussex’s 275.
He trapped Simon Harmer and Zaman Akhter leg-before, then up-rooted Shane Snater’s leg stump, all with the score on 175.
That sparked major celebrations on the out-field as team-mates rushed to congratulate the bowler.
Crocombe’s haul will have been even more special given he suffered a torrid time against the same county in the Vitality Blast this season.
He finished with figures of 5-39 in 9.5 overs while James Coles bagged 3-7 in eight.
The last four Essex batsmen were each dismissed for nought.
Those feats made Jack Leaning's 60 in the first Sussex innings even more valuable as they chased a win.
But they were a precarious 40-3 going into the closing stages of day two as they looked to add to their first-innings lead of 98.
Back in 1965, Buss took his first hat-trick of the season against Cambridge University in June and followed it with another versus Derbyshire in August.
