The Red Ensign flag, the official flag of the merchant navy, was raised to honour Merchant Navy Day.
The ceremony took place in the Carfax at the War Memorial on September 3.
The event was organised by the Horsham District Council and the Horsham branch of the Royal British Legion.
The ceremony started with the traditional ringing of eight bells, which signifies the relief of a naval watch, and then a minute's silence.
Wreaths were laid by chair of the district council, Councillor Joanne Knowles, and Horsham branch Royal British Legion’s chairman Zäl Rustom.
The campaign raises awareness of our island nation’s dependence on Merchant Navy seafarers in the past, present and future.
