A shop thief who targeted Worthing stores has been jailed after stealing more than £6,800.

Dale Searle, 38, went on what Sussex Police described as a crime spree, during which he entered shops including the Co-op, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons in the town.

Video footage showed him entering a Tesco Express store in Dominion Road on two occasions with a shopping list.

He left places with bags full of shopping, and made no attempt to pay for it.

He has been convicted following thefts worth more than £6,800 in Worthing stores in spring.

But Searle had already been identified as a prolific shoplifter.

He had been targeted for arrest as part of Operation Apprentice.

Searle, of no fixed address, admitted 19 counts of shop theft at Lewes Crown Court on September 4.

Dale Searle has been convicted after thefts at Worthing stores earlier this spring, assault on an emergency worker, and a business burglary at a vaping shop.
