Henfield Village Hall hosted a gathering of the Carden family at the weekend.

Members of the Carden dynasty came from around the world, including Australia, New Zealand, Canada, America and Argentina.

In a number of cases the name had been altered slightly but is was believed that they all had the same family connection.

On a point of interest a family member from Alabama pointed out that there were 150,000 Cardens in the Carolina phone book descended from only six who originaly went out many years ago.

Several trips were made to the Devil's Dyke to see where Sir Herbert Carden had purchased land on behalf of Brighton Council - now Brighton and Hove City Council.

There were trips also to the Royal Pavilion, the Fishing Museum and Brighton Town Hall where a reception was held with the Mayor on Friday evening.

The book on the Cardens of Brighton was on sale. It was written by Arthur Carden from Horsham and David Carden, the Town Clerk of Burgess Hill.
