The RAF has offered to pay a fly-past tribute to First World War veteran Henry Allingham on his death.

Mr Allingham, 112, of Ovingdean, is one of three surviving veterans of the Great War as well as being Europe’s oldest man.

The Ministry of Defence has revealed it is happy to pay a special tribute to the trio - Mr Allingham, Harry Patch, 110, and Bill Stone, 108 - when their funerals are held.

The three led the Armistice Day ceremony at the Cenotaph in London on Tuesday.

For many years Mr Allingham lived in Eastbourne but when his eyesight began to deteriorate he moved to St Dunstan’s care home for blind ex-service personnel in Greenways, Ovingdean.

He was a founding member of the Royal Air Force, which this year celebrates its 90th birthday.

In May Mr Allingham was treated to an RAF flypast to mark his 112th birthday.
