Goals from Scott Taylor and Michael Standing gave Lewes a 2-0 lead at half-time at home to fellow strugglers Grays Athletic.
The Rooks went ahead on four minutes when Anthony Barness delivered a delightful pass through the middle which Taylor latched on to, rounded goalkeeper David Button and fired home his fifth goal of the season.
Taylor was almost through again on 11 minutes from a Michael Standing pass but a belated offside flag denied him.
The resulting free-kick from Button struck Taylor and rebounded to Seb Wallis-Tayler who could have shot towards an empty goal but took the ball on and the opportunity was wasted.
The lead was eventually doubled in the 35th minute thanks to the willingness of youngster David Wheeler who chased a through ball from Standing and was bundled over by defender Jamie Stuart for a penalty which Standing converted.
