I am an over 60s swimmer. I am therefore very interested in the free swimming scheme that has been introduced by the Government.

I contacted the body of people who administer the pools for the area in which I live, namely Wave Leisure Trust Ltd, to inquire as to how the scheme was to be operated in the Lewes, Newhaven and Seaford areas.

After inquiring through many channels, namely Lewes District Council, East Sussex County Council and enlisting the help of Norman Baker MP, the situation seems very unclear.

It seems that the pools that are run by the Lib Dem council will be part of the scheme, but the pool run by the Conservative county council will not. This means that the Lewes and Newhaven pools will be free to the over 60s at specified times and the Seaford Head pool will not.

So, once again Seaford gets the short straw, as it does for health and education. Seaford has a larger population than the other two towns yet its health facilities and education facilities are inferior. We need a small hospital and a sixth form education system reinstated. Looking at the size of the population in Seaford, it seems to me that we have a very good case for Seaford to have a leisure pool of its own.

Is this another example of postcode lottery (BN25 losing out) or are council politics coming into play?
