I thoroughly agree with Father Christopher Jamison in his analysis of the Disney culture and the effect it has on children. (The Argus, December 4)
I was saddened when the Disney theme park opened in Paris. We have so many wonderful fairytale children’s stories in our European culture yet they’ve been forgotten in the Americanisation we welcome and allow.
Whatever happened to Hans Christian Andersen, the Brothers Grimm, Aesop’s Fables, just to mention a few?
As for the rampant commercialism, well, under the present financial system aren’t we always being told that we must keep spending in order to keep the system going and provide jobs?
Of course, how we do this with dwindling resources on our planet is never explained.
No wonder people get into debt and we’re drowning in discarded rubbish.
The whole system needs a radical rethink and we need to examine our lifestyle if we wish to save our children, our culture and our environment.
You can’t buy happiness, even though the fleeting purchase may make you think you can.
