Two men and two youths have been arrested over a horrific attack on a man sleeping on a train.

The 21-year-old man suffered severe burns and was left unconscious through shock after his beard was set on fire in a carriage passing through Worthing on Sunday night.

British Transport Police confirmed one suspect gave himself up after the case was publicised in The Argus.

Another three were arrested at addresses in Lancing and Worthing this afternoon.

The youths were 13 and 14, while the men were 18 and 19.

Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Williams said: "We have now arrested four males on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm on a 21-year-old man on Sunday.

"We are not looking for any other individuals at this stage.

"Officers have been working round the clock gathering evidence in relation to the case and would like to thank those members of the public who came forward and provided us with valuable evidence in the case.

"The help of the public, our colleagues at Sussex Police, good quality CCTV evidence and descriptions provided by the victim himself has allowed us to make a swift arrest."

It is understood the victim, who is from the Littlehampton area, has been released from hospital and is recovering at home.
