Following what seemed a deluge of rain during the week, many of us wondered if the game last Saturday would go ahead but thankfully the pitch overhaul in the close season seems to have worked and it was match on.

We were welcoming Northwich Victoria, strugglers at the foot of the league, and now managed by Eastbourne resident, Mr S King. To say there was added spice to this game was an understatement and it lived up to the expectations, more of which later.

As Harry Enfield's “doppelganger” wandered around outside the ground, a few people shouted out “Hello Steve” and it became apparent that the Vics manager didn't travel down with his team that day! With a scarf around his neck and still wearing his " Mourihno" grey coat, SK as he is affectionately known by some wandered over to greet his players.

An excellent crowd slipped through the turnstiles to await the contest and SK was in for a rough ride from the Sports faithful. The North Stand choir was soon in full voice, singing its usual array of songs interspersed with some humourous ditties for our esteemed visitor.

Having played the Vics only a few weeks ago, it would be interesting to see what changes had taken place since the managerial roundabout spun round. I can report here and now, that Mr King has indeed stamped his unique style and not for the first time The Lane Steve failed to see an entire 90 minutes play! The funniest part was that he was escorted from the dugout to the dressing room by Matthew, our chief steward, who happens to be Mr Kings neighbour.

Well, if the 4-1 victory wasn't enough for us fans, then no one was prepared for the Tuesday evening visit of promotion favourites and former League Two side, Torquay United. With our loanees from Plymouth starting, there was a Devonesque aura in the air and another great crowd to witness what many now believe to be the greatest league game played at Eastbourne Borough.

Torquay arrived unbeaten in 15 games andfourth in the league. From the offset, we showed no respect for our high flying visitors and we took the game to them in fine attacking football. None of us were prepared for the wonderful display from the entire squad who seem to have been lifted since the arrival of Ashley and Danny from Argyle. Ironic fact was that recently, Ashley Barnes was training with Torquay with a view to a loan .... one can assume they wish he had signed!

So the Boro goal drought is well and truly over, with eight in two games and now we venture to pastures new in the FA Trophy. Swindon Supermarine await us on Saturday. We cannot be complacent but the tail is well and truly up and ready to wag again! See you all in seven days' time.
