Last evening my wife was feeling unwell. I know from past experience that it is impossible to make a doctors’ appointment by telephone as the appointments line only operates between 10.30 and 12.00am. The line is always engaged.

So this morning I walked down to the surgery at 8.30am when the doors open, to endeavour to make an appointment for my wife.

The earliest possible appointment is for five days hence. After all the public money that has been pumped into the NHS and in particular GPs’ practices, is this the best we can expect?
