Dubbed “Brighton’s Gay Oscars”, the annual Golden Handbag Awards celebrates the best clubs, bars, bar staff and entertainers the local gay scene offers.
Voted on by readers of Gscene magazine and surfers on www.realbrighton.com, nominees in each category are announced with the help of interactive TV screens by local personalities, before the winner is crowned.
Hosted by the ever-popular Lola Lasagne, this year’s guest presenters include the gay comic Jason Wood, who is joined by Mark Inscoe and Sebastian Wesley (stars of the new West End production of Priscilla Queen Of The Desert) as well as Eva La Diva, Nicolette Street, The Rainbow Chorus, The Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus and stars from Absolutely Dragulous.
Everyone gives their services free of charge and this year the proceeds will be shared between a range of local LGBT organisations.
