It was good to see the monument in Wild Park cleaned up (The Argus, March 13) and this fits in well with the general effort by the council to improve the appearance of the Moulsecoomb and Bevendean area.

Residents may have already noticed the clearing of the central reservation on Lewes Road ready for seed planting, the creation of flowerbeds on both sides of the road, the introduction of grazing in Wild Park – with plans to extend grazing on Bevendean Down – and the reopening of the toilets in the Wild Park , which from Easter will be open daily.

This also fits in with the long-term plans for the area such as increasing grass cutting in the city, improving the council housing stock, the opening of the new Falmer Academy and Stadium, all of which will transform the area for years to come and will provide some real solid investment for local people.

As a ward councillor I want people to be proud to live in Moulsecoomb and Bevendean and as a council we have to do our bit to ensure residents have a sense of civic pride.

As a Conservative council we aim to do this by investing in the area and ensuring residents know the council cares about where they live and, while residents may not see the difference overnight, I am hoping they are starting to see a positive change to where they live.

Councillor Maria Caulfield Moulsecoomb and Bevendean Brighton and Hove City Council
