An old master, Nazis and American gangsters all combine in this new play by Keith Wait, which comes to the Festival Fringe before moving on to Edinburgh. At the centre of the story is Lucas Cranach The Elder’s painting Cupid Complaining To Venus, which currently hangs in London’s National Gallery.

The painting has had a chequered history. Lost before the First World War, it was picked up by the Nazis and presented to Adolf Hitler as a 50th birthday present.

That wasn’t the end of the painting’s adventure, as it was looted by American troops and passed through the hands of Zionist activists, Nazi sympathisers and New York criminals.

  • Starts 7.30pm (Mon to Wed), 6pm (Thurs to Sat), tickets £9/£7.50.
