In the near future gambling taxes have helped pull the country out of recession.
But the knock-on effect has been to create a nation of gambling addicts in Australian company Scorch Theatre’s world premiere of Hope Gap.
The play is told through the eyes of an investigative journalist who is researching a story on former singer and cultural icon turned gambling addict John Daniels. Set in a world where the Millennium Dome is now a rehab centre for those taken in by the gaming bug, the dark comedy, written and directed by Nick Warnford, was inspired by Australia’s growing problem of poker machine addiction.
It follows the company’s successful outing at last year’s Fringe Festival with Power Lunch.
- Starts 7.45pm (not Sun), 4pm matinees Sun, tickets £8.50/£7.
