A taxi driver who died in a car crash while taking a teenager to school has been named.
Kenneth Nigel Pilbeam, 54, of Uplands Close, Uckfield, died after crashing into a tree in Ringmer on Thursday, April 23. He is believed to have had a heart attack.
The 15-year-old passenger, Harriett Casserly, a Year 11 pupil from Priory School, was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
She was admitted with a suspected broken pelvis but was not found to have suffered any broken bones.
Mr Pilbeam worked as a self-employed taxi driver under contract to Reliable Taxis in Uckfield.
His Citroen Xsara people carrier left the road near Raystede Animal Centre, The Broyle, at about 8.15am.
Mr Pilbeam's family have spoken of their sadness at his death. In a statement they said: “Nigel was a much loved husband, father and son and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.”
