GORDON BROWN has congratulated Brighton and Hove Albion on their Great Escape.
The Seagulls secured League One safety with a 1-0 victory over Stockport County on Saturday.
Mr Brown praised Albion while speaking to a packed House of Commons during Prime Minister’s question time.
He was responding to Hove MP Celia Barlow, who was one of more than 8,500 at the match.
Mr Brown said: "Let me too congratulate Brighton on their success.
"Football clubs that are at the centre of their communities are good for every community, and Brighton has proved exactly that."
A Nicky Forster goal sparked off celebrations as the Seagull’s avoided relegation to League Two.
The Prime Minister added that he saw photographs following the team’s victory.
