CLOSE: Sussex 269-6 (74) A really good day's cricket despite the overcast and cold conditions. Hodd and Wright showed tremendous courage to revive Sussex and Hodd deserves nothing better than to complete his century in the morning. He will resume on 84 with RMJ 3. Remember Durham can take the new ball in six overs so that will be another key period in this contest.

Sussex 267-6 (72) All gone a bit quiet since Wright got out but Hodd is still there on 83 with Robin Martin-Jenkins 3 not out. Two overs to go tonight.

WICKET: Sussex 259-6 (66) Wright gone for 67 the ball after he and Hodd had brought up their 150 stand in just 38 overs. Ian Blackwell dropped short and Wright slog-swept it straight to square leg. He faced 114 balls and hit nine fours.

Sussex 219-5 (55.3) Wright and Hodd both to 50. Wright first off 67 balls with seven fours and Hodd to his off 99 balls with nine boundaries. Stand now worth 110 in 28 overs. Good stuff.

Sussex 189-5 (48.3) Sussex have scored their runs at nearly four an over and the two batsmen are feasting on anything wide or overpitched here. Wright occasionally living by the seat of his pants flashing outside off at Harmison but he's been positive and Hodd is giving him excellent support. Might all change again now though as Plunkett returns to the attack. More good news for Durham: Onions has just got his fifth wicket in the Test and finished with 5-38, the announcement here greeted with applause from his team-mates and the crowd. Wright 40 and Hodd 35 and w're finally going to see some spin as Blackwell comes into the attack for Claydon at the Cromwell Road end.

Sussex 163-5 (43.3) Positive start after tea particularly by Hodd who has moved to 22 with boundaries off Harmison and Thorp driven through the covers when the bowlers overpitched. Wright on 29 and the stand is now worth 54.

TEA: Sussex 154-5 (42) Good fightback by the sixth wicket pair. Wright is 29 and Hodd 13. Fiery spell by Harmison after Plunkett took 3-47 in ten overs off the reel. In the Test west Indies have collapsed and are 117-7 with Onions, of Durham of course, just taking two wickets in an over.

Sussex 120-5 (31) Bowling change as Thorp returns down the slope for Claydon. Wright 16 and punishing anything overpitched. Hodd yet to get off the mark and was beaten all ends up in the last over by Plunkett whose three wickets came from 17 balls. Drama too at Lord's where Graeme Swann has taken two in two including Chanderpaul for a duck to leave West Indies 99-4.

WICKET: Sussex 109-5 (28.1) It gets worse. Yardy reached hid 50 earlier in the over from Claydon with a leg glance for four but he's just lost his off stump to a fullish-length ball which he appeared to pick up late. A horrible half-hour for Sussex. Wright is 7 and with him is Andrew Hodd.

WICKET: Sussex 97-4 (26.2) Silence at Hove except for celebrating Durham fielders as Hamilton-Brown goes for a blob. He tried to get inside the line of another Plunkett delivery but got a touch to Mustard who took his third catch. Sussex have lost 4-16 in six overs and that follow-on target of 231 looks a long way off at the moment.

WICKET: Sussex 95-3 Goodwin's miserable start to the season continues with a duck as he pushes forward to Plunkett and gets a big nick to Mustard behind the stumps. Yardy 44 and Rory Hamilton-Brown is at No.5 and just faced his first ball. The game has changed remarkably in the last 20 minutes.

WICKET: Sussex 90-2 (24) Typical Hove pitch were wickets tend to fall in clusters. For Sussex's sake lets hope two represent a cluster. Anyway, Joyce has gone after gloving a ball from Claydon down the leg side and Mustard took a straightforward catch. Yardy just moved onto 43 with a cut past backward point for four. Murray Goodwin the new batsman.

WICKET: Sussex 81-1 (20.4) Plunkett strikes as Nash's off stump is sent cartwheeling out of the ground, landing 15 yards back. Late swing? Hard to tell from side on but Nash appeared to be aiming through the leg side. Ed Joyce in now with Yardy, who is 34.

Sussex 78-0 (18.3) Rattling progress since the resumption by the openers. Plunkett and Claydon have both bowled two overs after taking over from the new-ball pair and although there have been a few runs through third man there have been somew positive strokes in front of the wicket as well with both players driving confidentally on a pitch not doing a great deal. Nash is 40 and Yardy 32.

Sussex 45-0 (13.2) Still Harmison and Thorp since lunch but the players have just gone off after 20 minutes of the afternoon session because of a combination of bad light and drizzle. Not sure we will be off for long but this was forecast. One good lbw appeal by Thorp against Nash turned down by Nigel Cowley. He is 25 and Yardy 17.

Lunch: Sussex 22-0, Durham 380 Apologies for the lack of morning updates from day two here at Hove - wifi problems which have now been fixed.

Anyway, Durham's last three wickets added 62 in 21 overs. Liam Plunkett finished 94 not out and ran out of partners when he was on the cusp of a maiden first-class hundred.

There were two wickets for Ollie Rayner who had Callum Thorp caught at deep mid on by Mike Yardy after adding 59 in 18 overs with Plunkett for the eighth wicket.

Mitchell Claydon was bowled by Luke Wright for 6 and last man Steve Harmison caught behind pushing forward to Rayner for a duck. Plunkett was left high and dry on a career-best 94, made in 226 minutes off 184 balls, eight of which he hit for four.

Rayner and Wright both finished with two wickets but Damien Wright was only able to bowl 17 deliveries this morning before he had to go off clutching his side. Looks like a bad injury - will get confirmation later.

Sussex had to face eight overs before lunch and survived, allbeit with a couple of alarms, to reach 22-0 at the break. Nash is 11 and Yardy 8.
