A pensioner has called for action to be taken against vandals who are throwing stones at his home.

For the last three weeks yobs have pelted stones at Granville Hyett's home.

They walk up the platform at Aldrington station in Hove and take aim.

In the most recent spate of attacks two glass panels of his greenhouse were smashed causing £100 worth of damage.

The 87-year-old retired chef was targeted by vandals in 2002 before Southern Rail, which manages the train line, put up a fence by the track.

But Mr Hyett, who lives in Amherst Crescent, Hove, said that this is no longer acting as a deterrent to the vandals who pick up the rocks from a gap under the fence.

He said: “The trouble is it happens at night. They just walk down the platform quite a long way and throw stones at my house.

“I am very angry. I am an 87-year old man. I don't want this aggravation at my age.

“There is no one up at the station to watch what they are doing. It is vandalism, it is a crime and I think it's shocking.”

He added: “My neighbour has suffered too. Last week a stone just missed the window of his car.”

Mr Hyett reported the damage to Southern Rail three weeks ago asking them to fix the gap under the fence but he says he has not heard from them since.

A spokesman from Southern Rail said: “We are sorry that Mr Hyett is once again being subjected to stone throwing from the station. We are currently dealing with his complaint and will look back over CCTV images in an attempt to identify the offenders.

"We will inspect the fence and ensure that any necessary repairs are undertaken."

Southern Rail said that CCTV images from Aldrington are fed to the control centre in Croydon.

British Transport Police said they are aware of the incident and have offered Mr Hyett crime prevention advice.
