A dance company which brought a UK premiere to the city has been awarded an Argus Angel Award for its contribution to Brighton Festival.

Les ballets C de la B performed Ashes, which was co-comissioned by Brighton Festival and Aphasiadisiac during the first week of the festival and both shows were highly praised by The Argus reviewers.

Although the pieces by the Belgian company were totally contrasting, with a more muted performance for Ashes and a humorous one for Aphasiadisiac, it was considered that both were worthy winners of an Argus Angel, which recognise artistic excellence during Brighton Festival and the Fringe.

Describing Aphasiadisiac, reviewer Ian Ray said: “This utterly charming piece will speak to anyone who's ever found themselves in the iron grip of a temporary speech impediment when faced with the object of their sexual ambition.”

Reviewer Karen Dugdale, who watched Ashes, said: “This intense picaresque performance, as previously mentioned, is so much more than just dance. “ Ted Stoffer, former Rambert dancer and choreographer of Aphasiadisiac: "It's great to be recognised for our work, particularly after working on it for so long."

An Argus Angel Award will also be given to a show or performance chosen by a readers vote. To nominate a show, text the name of the show to 80360, starting your message with AA or click here for our online nomination form.
