Got down to 4 to tie off the last ball which Elliott drilled to long on and Hamilton-Brown's throw restricted them to just two runs. What a game! Sussex showed good character at the end there because with ten overs left Surrey were favourites. Fantastic entertainment and relief I'd imagine is the over-riding emotion in the home dressing room. Back tomorrow for another FPT game against Durham here at Hove. Join us then for live online updates.

SUSSEX WON BY 2 RUNS

WICKET: Surrey 299-6 (49)
Wilson bowled by Arafat for 1. Next ball a leg bye. Then a dot as Arafat gets the yorker in on Elliott. Fourth ball a single to mid off. Fifth ball dabbed down to backward point for another single. Last ball the same so four off the over. 15 needed off the last over. Up to you James Kirtley!

Surrey 294-5 (48) It's not over yet. Terrible over then from Kirtley included three wides and 18 came off it. So Surrey now need 19 from two. Elliott 17, Wilson 1. Up to Arafat you feel.

WICKET: Surrey 275-5 (46.4) That last Kirtley over could have turned it Sussex's way. Surrey only scored 24 in their powerplay and Arafat and Kirtley have brought all their experience to bear in the last three overs. And now Arafat has just sent Spriegel's poles flying with a spectacular yorker. Gone for 2, Elliott 2 and the new bat is Gary Wilson.

WICKET: Surrey 272-4 (45.3) Walters run out for 49. Looked for second but took on sub Hopkinson at long off and was half a yard short after a great return. Big wicket that. Spriegel 2, Grant Elliott in with him.

WICKET: Surrey 271-3 (45.1) Kirtley gets Afzaal first ball back, slower ball which he toe-ended to Gatting at extra cover. Walters on 49 and Matt Spriegel is the new batsman.

Surrey 271-2 (45) Much more like it from Arafat there, bowling consistently in the block hole. 43 needed off five, one over of pp left. Walters 49, Afzaal 11 and Kirtley back at the sea end. Still Surrey's - just.

Sussex 259-2 (43) More control there from Wright and RMJ with nine off the last two overs getting the equation down to 55 from 7. It's going to go to the last over, you can be sure of that. Walters 44, Afzaal 4.

Surrey 250-2 (41) Bad over for Sussex as Walters clubs a six and four off Arafat through mid-wicket. 13 off the over and Surrey have now called their powerplay. Theirs to lose from here you feel.

Surrey 237-2 (40) RMJ back into the attack at the sea end. Who's your lira on? 77 off 10, Walters on 26 and Afzaal 2.

WICKET: Surrey 230-2 (38.3) Newman out for 130 trying to clear long on he gives Gatting a juggling catch. Great innings by Newman but Sussex have a sniff now. Walters is 21 and new batsman Usman Afzaal is 1. 83 needed off 11 overs and Arafat back into the attack.

Surrey 203-1 (36) Could that be the defining moment of this match? Newman on 111 drilled Yardy's first ball back to long on but Gatting, who didn't seem to pick it up until late, dropped it as he dived forward. Newman on 114 and Walters is 11 and Kirtley has replaced Luke W at the Cromwell Road end and is about to bowl his second over of a new spell. Surrey need 112 off 14 and still have a powerplay left.

Surrey 186-1 (33) Hundred for Newman but he rode his luck in that last over. A pull-drive off Wright only just eluded the diving Yardy at short mid-wicket and then another thick edge went fine for four. It's only the second one-day hundred of his career, not many for such a talented player. He is 103 and Walters 9. Might be Wright's last over that.

Surrey 176-1 (32) Beer back at the sea end and Surrey need 138 off 18 overs. They are still favourites. Newman 93 and Walters 7. Yardy will have to turn to his three most experienced seamers - Arafat, Kirtley and RMJ - soon, you feel to drag this back.

WICKET: Surrey 154-1 (28.3) At last. Wright gets a breakthrough as Brown loses his off stump trying to slog him over square. He made 66. Newman is 79 and Stewart Walters is the new batsman, promoted from No.8. presumably to throw the bat.

Surrey 142-0 (26) RHB convinced he'd got Brown leg before in that last over but umpire Cowley was unmoved and Brown flicked the next ball fine down the leg side for his sixth four. His 50 came off 60 balls and he is now on 57 with Newman 77. Beer replaced by Wright at the Cromwell Road end but the crowd here have gone very quiet. Very quiet.

Surrey 129-0 (24) Surrey still need 185 from 26 overs at 7.11 an over but they do have ten wickets in hand so you have to make them favourites. Dare Yardy bring back Wright or RMJ, who have both been expensive so far in search of a wicket? Newman is 75 and Brown 48 and the players are having a quick drinks break. Good chance for Sussex to regroup and a big test of Yardy's captaincy.

Surrey 126-0 (23) Hard to see where Sussex are going to get a wicket here. The batters are not having to take too many risks, milking Beer and Yardy for ones and twos and punishing the odd bad ball such as in Yardy's last over when Newman biffed a half-tracker over long on for six. He is 74 and Brown 46 and Rory Hamilton-Brown is coming on now to replace Yardy.

Surrey 85-0 (15) 34 runs off the bowling powerplay. Newman has reached his 50 and Brown is 31. Sussex were 84-3 after 15. Game on!

Surrey 75-0 (13) Yardy seen enough and has brought himself on. Two overs of the bowling powerplay yet and a change of pace might do the trick. Newman 46 and Brown 23, although he only just made his ground there to beat sub Hopkinson's throw from the covers.

Surrey 51-0 (10.1) All very quiet here as Surrey's openers continue to make good progress. Double bowling change has seen Luke Wright replace Kirtley and RMJ come on for Arafat whose first five overs went for 26, 11 of them in his first over. Sussex need a stick here.

Surrey 27-0 (5) That's not good news. Goodwin was struggling with what looks like a thigh strain during the latter part of his innings and has just limped off after making a vain chase around the boundary. Brown is standing up to Kirtley and Surrey have been pegged back a bit. Brown 17, Newman 9.

Surrey 17-0 (2) Great start by Newman and Brown, who have already hit three boundaries between them off Arafat and Kirtley. Brown 10, Newman 6. Surrey 0-0 (0.2) Surrey's reply underway with Arafat coming in down the slope. Newman and Brown opening for the visitors.

SUSSEX 313-7 (50) RHB carved to backward point off Collins in the final over for 43 leaving RMJ 4* and Ben Brown 1* Great score for Sussex underpinned by Goodwin's excellent 144.

WICKET: Sussex 290-6 (47.3) Arafat holes out looking to clear long off for 3. Hussain's first wicket. RHB 31, Robin Martin-Jenkins the new batsman.

WICKET: Sussex 268-5 (45) Goodwin out for a magnificent 144. Tried to repeat his slog-sweep that went for six off the next ball but was caught on the mid-wicket boundary by Spriegel. He faced 118 balls and also hit 16 fours. Great innings which was greeted with a standing ovation. RHB 15 and Yasir Arafat has been promoted to try and biff a few. Mortaza Hussain back on at the sea end now for Elliott.

Sussex 260-4 (44) Three boundaries in that last over of power play bowled by Elliott meant Sussex scored 51 in the last five overs. Hamilton-Brown striking the ball cleanly but Goodwin is in imperious form and has just hoisted Schofield into the pavilion for his second six to move to 144.

WICKET: Sussex 219-4 (40.1) Collins back into the attack and Yardy drives his first ball to the deep point boundary and Stewart Walters takes the catch to end a stand of 135 in 24 overs, Yardy making 59. Goodwin on 110 and Rory Hamilton-Brown is in with him against his former club.

Sussex 206-3 (38.4) Hundred for Goodwin and it's looked a certainty since he was dropped on 39. Usman Afzaal has brought himself on to bowl, the seventh Surrey bowler used, but Goodwin greeted him with the first six of the game between two fielders on the mid-wicket boundary to go to 96 and got to three figures in singles. At 99 balls with nine fours it has got to be one of his quickest one-day tons for Sussex. Yardy's 50 came off 64 balls (4x4) and Sussex have just called their batting powerplay. Stand now worth 125 in 24 overs.

Sussex 166-3 (32) Ball will be changed in two overs which should help improve an already decent scoring rate by these two. Meaker has come back for a second spell from the sea end. He is capable of bowling very quickly as Wright discovered earlier but control let him down with too much sprayed down the leg side. Goodwin 79 and Yardy 42.

Sussex 144-3 (27) Schofield off after taking 1-31 in seven. Matt Spriegel on to bowl his offies but Goodwin (67) and Yardy (31) have now put on 60 in 12 overs fairly untroubled.

Sussex 119-3 (23) Goodwin 50 off 51 balls with five fours. He's 51 and Yardy is batting nicely now too and is 22. Decent crowd in today but it's not packed. Not sure if there are the 2,034 needed to break the record for throw-and-catch at the interval.

Sussex 107-3 (21) Spin at both ends now as Murtaza Hussain replaces Elliott. Goodwin 47, Yardy 15. Looks a good pitch this one and Sussex's three slow bowlers could have some work later on.

WICKET: Sussex 84-3 (14.4) Schofield does the trick as Gatting gets a leading edge working the ball to leg and chips up an easy return catch to end a stand of 63 in nine overs. Doubt if Gatt has had a lot of experience facing decent leg spin but it's a shame for the Sharks as the two were batting really well with excellent running between the wickets. Skipper Mike Yardy in now with Goodwin, whose 39 not out has contained five picket-ticklers.

Sussex 77-2 (12.1) Fifty stand in just six overs and not surprisingly Surrey have made a bowling change with New Zealander Grant Elliott, who played for Sussex II last season, replacing Meaker who took 1-34 from his five overs. Make that a double change: Chris Schofield coming on to bowl his leggies, a bit of a gamble as there are still three overs of the powerplay left. Gatting on 34 and Joyce 32. Sussex 49-2 (8) Couple of spanking off drives from Goodwin to the boundary has improved the mood here. He is onto 19 and Gatting is 20 not out. Still Collins and Meaker.

WICKET: Sussex 21-2 (5.1) Surrey cock-a-hoop as Wright goes for a duck, bowled by Meaker. Off stump knocked out of the ground, looked like he played all round a straight one. Gatting 15, Murray Goodwin with him now.

WICKET: Sussex 16-1 (2.4) Joyce, the hero of last Monday's win over Durham, goes for one nicking to wicketkeeper Gary Wilson off Collins. Gatting is 11 and has already hit two boundaries and Luke Wright is with him.

Sussex 2-0 (1) Mike Yardy won the toss and Sussex are batting in ideal conditions. Warm and sunny. First over bowled by Pedro Collins from the Cromwell Road end and a single each to Ed Joyce and Joe Gatting, who is making his competitive Hove debut.

It's going to be Stuart Meaker from the sea end.
