I read with interest the letter from Mike Mendoza, UKIP Parliamentary candidate for Hove (Letters, May 1). I presume Mr Mendoza is not a cyclist or he would have readily appreciated the im-provement to safety for all cyclists by the pro-vision of the cycle lanes in The Drive. Previously, motorists were encouraged to drive far too fast up and down The Drive by the fact that it was a grand avenue and wide enough for cars to get up speed. The new cycle lanes have slowed everybody down making it safer for all road-users and the lanes themselves much more secure for cyclists.
It doesn’t look as pretty as it did but at the end of the day, surely the safety of Hove residents and the improvement to the environment by encouraging cyclists will benefit everyone in the long run.
