A medieval fighting force walked through the streets of a village as part of its fifth annual festival.

The Hurst Festival, in Hurstpierpoint, began on September 12 and runs until Saturday September 26, with events including comedy, dance, history and music.

Visitors were treated to Medieval jousting today.

The festival also includes a play about Charles Darwin and an appearance by Sussex folk legends The Copper Family.

Party evenings are being held at the village centre, with bands The Big Kahuna, The Pagodas and the Counterfeit Blues Brothers.

Tickets for events are available from The Mint House Bookshop in Hurstpierpoint, or by visiting www.hurstfestival.org.uk.
