Paramedic Garry Perkins, who tackled a gunman in a wheelchair, has been nominated for a prestigious award.
Garry, from Portslade, was with crewmate John Akehurst when he was called to a house in Worthing to reports that a man had fallen.
But when the pair got to the house they found Ian Wilson sitting in his wheelchair, demanding morphine for a headache.
Mr Perkins, 45, then noticed a gun lying on a radiator, moments before Wilson pointed a second gun at him.
As his colleague escaped, Mr Perkins decided to tackle the gunman.
After a violent struggle, Mr Perkins managed to disarm Wilson and call the police.
Both guns were discovered to be fake.
Wilson was found guilty of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of unlawful violence and jailed for four years.
The judge awarded Mr Perkins £400 for his bravery.
Mr Perkins has since been named as a finalist for the GMTV Emergency Services Award, part of Daily Mirror's Pride of Britain Awards 2009.
The final will be screened on ITV1 on October 7.
