The Prime Minister will be welcomed by more than 1,000 protesters when the Labour Party Conference kicks off this weekend.

Angry crowds are planning to shut down central Brighton with demonstrators travelling from as far away as Scotland and Wales to march along the seafront on Sunday.

Unions and peace campaigners are joining forces to put pressure on the Government as Labour’s annual get-together begins.

One group is planning to bring activists to the city on a chartered “rage train”.

The event is expected to close Kings Road as masses of people march from Madeira Drive to the conference site at The Grand, the Hilton Brighton Metropole and the Brighton Centre.

Heavy barriers are being installed tomorrow to try to stop any attempts to break into the site using a vehicle.

About 1,000 officers are being used in the force’s security operation for the conference, called Operation Otter, with peak numbers expected to reach 600 at any one time.
