An eventful first half at the Deva Stadium was held up by a pitch invasion from disgruntled Chester fans.

The home side were leading 2-1 when around 20 supporters came on to the pitch with banners protesting against chairman Steven Vaughan.

Police and stewards eventually cleared the pitch but the interruption seemed to affect the home side with Borough grabbing an equaliser three minutes later.

Chester had taken the lead after just six minutes when Paul Armstrong conceded a free kick 25 yards from goal and Anthony Barry curled his shot into the top corner.

Borough hit back three minutes later with an even more spectacular strike. Nothing seemed on for Liam Enver-Marum when he collected the ball from Armstrong 25 yards out but he turned and fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

Danny Knowles prevented Chester restoring their advantage in the 16th minute when he blocked Nick Chadwick's shot after the striker had run on to Mark Beesley's through ball.

Enver-Marum was brought down when threatening to run in on goal after 19 minutes but Tim Ryan escaped with a yellow card. John Danby then did well to save Enver-Marum's shot from the resulting free kick.

Chester took the lead again in the 28th minute following a terrible backpass from Simon Weatherstone. Chadwick latched on to the loose ball and helped it on to Beesley who set up Lloyd Ellams to fire home from ten yards.

Enver-Marum shot just wide in the 32nd minute and five minutes later the Chester supporters made their protest.

Borough's equaliser was a nightmare for Danby. The Chester goalkeeper dropped Matt Crabb's croner and a grateful Kayne McLaggon hooked the loose ball home on the volley from six yards.
