Police are investigating how a fire started in a block of flats.
The blaze broke out in the bathroom of a first floor apartment in the three storey building in Rowlands Road, in Worthing, at 2.30am.
Three crews of firefighters spent over an hour tackling the blaze.
West Sussex Fire and Rescue service said all residents were safely evacuated. No-one was hurt.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said it was not yet known how the fire had started. The force has not ruled out the possibility of arson.
