Fire crews were called to a flooding on the main road through Alrfirston village and at a house in Crawley overnight.
The Alfriston Road is now believed to have re-opened but motorists are warned to expect delays.
The road was shut in both directions between the A27 Drusillas roundabout junction and White Way at about 5.30am, but is now passable.
Fire crews in Crawley were called to reports of floodingat a house in the Broadfield area of town.
A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: "The flooding was down to the weather.
"Some tiles blew off the roof letting the water in and we had to shore it up to secure it.
"If we have a lot more rain today we could see some more flooding."
