Brendan Cole takes to the stage with five other dancers, including his brother Scott and former Strictly Come Dancing professional Nicole Cutler.

Backed by an impressively versatile 14-piece band and two talented singers, they start off with a pasodoble, capes twirling frantically. A ballroom tango next – and the orange-tinted dancer seemed to have been Tangoed herself. The first show on Tuesday was not without teething problems, mainly due to Brendan’s skills as a compere. But if he is not particularly slick, at least he seems natural, likeable and genuinely concerned to include everyone in his passion for dancing. He even gets the audience on their feet and doing a few salsa steps. Viennese waltzes, jives, American smooths – the six dancers go through them all with energy, skill and tons of sequins.

I did think that Cole could have been more informative in his descriptions of dances, rather than trying to convey the “atmosphere”. His evocation of an elegant Viennese ballroom is at odds with the power ballad and pink Ballroom Barbie frock we actually get.

He may not be as multi- talented as Brucie, but Cole also sings a few numbers with a surprisingly good voice.

The overly-long Q&A session prompted someone to ask “When are you going to get back to dancing?”, but in general, it’s a fun, sparkly show that Strictly fans of all ages will enjoy.
