A second man has been arrested after a New Year's Day assault which left a man needing emergency brain surgery.

The 25-year-old man, of no fixed address, but believed to be Hove-based, was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent yesterday afternoon.

He was arrested in London by Metropolitan Police officers on behalf of Sussex Police.

Sussex Police said he will be returned to Sussex and questioned in due course.

The serious assault left a 25-year-old man needing emergency brain surgery after he was injured during a fight outside the Ocean Rooms nightclub in Brighton at around 6am on New Year's Day.

A 24-year-old man, also from Brighton, who was arrested shortly after midday on Friday on suspicion of causing GBH with intent, was questioned by detectives before being released on bail until January 13.

Police want to hear from anyone who was in the club or nearby during the early hours of Friday morning with information about what happened or what may have led up to the incident.
