I ENTIRELY endorse Selma Montford regarding Coun Smith’s claims over the proposed closure of the Brighton History Centre (Letters, December 30).
As Ms Montford points out, five years would seem far more realistic for the time when all the records and resources currently available in the Brighton History Centre would be available in The Keep.
Coun Smith says “services” will be provided at the Jubilee Library until The Keep is built at Falmer.
However, any services are bound to be of a limited nature and will result in a much reduced amount of research being available to families and historians for some years.
At a time when there is a growing interest in such research, I urge Coun Smith and his fellow councillors to reconsider the centre’s premature closure so that this important resource is not lost to achieve short-term financial savings.
