I AGREE with David Rowland (December 28) who has succinctly put the case for the history centre to remain where it is – and properly funded until a replacement is in place.

The heritage of the city has to be protected and improved and while I am heartened by Councillor David Smith’s letter in the same edition, the points made by Mr Rowland and other correspondents should be listened to seriously.

I am aware local authorities have financial difficulties but there are services that should be protected.

Also, it is ironic that the city council is bidding for Heritage Lottery funding for The Level when it might also be bidding for extra support for the history centre.
