A man who was attacked outside a nightclub in the early hours of New Year's Day has died.
Sussex Police said Ricky Brown, 25, of Arnold Street, Brighton, died late this morning.
His family were at his bedside when he died at Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre in Haywards Heath.
Mr Brown suffered a serious head injury in the attack outside the city's Ocean Rooms nightclub just before 6am.
He was first taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in the city but was later transferred to Hurstwood Park, which specialises in treating brain injuries.
Chancey Cummings, 25, of no fixed address, appeared before Brighton magistrates on Monday charged with causing grievous bodily harm and was remanded in custody to appear again at the same court on January 11.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) will decide what offence should now be prosecuted following the death of Mr Brown, a Sussex Police spokesman said.
