I read with interest that Roger French thinks promoting safe cycling to work, university or school with a “cycle train” is “a crazy idea” (The Argus, December 14).

You might want to ask him why, then, his company has signed up to the Government’s Cycle To Work Guarantee, which means they subscribe to the promotion of cycling to work.

This Cycle To Work Guarantee is something promoted not by a minority of nutters, but by the Department of Transport (all transport, not just cycling). By the way, the Conservative-run Brighton and Hove City Council also signed up to the Guarantee.

I think it is important not to criticise, but to promote cycling in our city and think of new ways to improve safety for cyclists. The “bike train” is one such idea.

People who cycle in Brighton often use public transport, if they cannot use their bikes. As the Brighton And Hove Bus company has signed up to the Cycle To Work Guarantee, it would be only fair if they promoted cycling alongside using their buses.

Would you mind asking Roger French about this discrepancy in his company’s supposed support of cyclist and cycling in Brighton?
