Recently I have had reason to have looked at a variety of care homes in this area. The new Downlands extra care home in Peacehaven looks a really good facility – of course, it has the benefit of being new. I was impressed that it had employed a Community Participation Worker with the aim of developing Downlands as a community hub to meet the needs of those not only in the home but also those residents of pensionable age in East Saltdean, Telscombe Cliffs and Peacehaven.
I was therefore saddened to hear that both Peacehaven and Telscombe Town Councils have refused a request from East Sussex County Council to contribute a very small amount to enable this worker to be employed for the next financial year.
So, all the hard work taking place now for the benefit of older people in the local area will cease. How mean spirited of both councils. Don’t they care about the older people they are supposed to represent?
