Commuters want to see train arrival times, toilets and waiting rooms improved at stations across Sussex.

Rail users have also called for better bicycle and car parking facilities, a report by rail customer watchdog Passenger Focus found.

A national survey of passengers at 25 stations, including Horsham and Uckfield, found high levels of dissatisfaction with facilities there.

Cycle and car parking arrangements topped the list of complaints with the condition of toilets, waiting rooms and other facilities also causing concern.

At Horsham the station toilets were described as “unpleasant”, while at Uckfield station there is no car parking and only a few cycle spaces.

Rail users said station staffing levels, better updates on train times and platforms are most important to them.

The survey of small to medium-sized stations was carried out as part of planning for the five year National Stations Improvement Programme.

Passenger Focus and Network Rail asked travellers at 25 stations what they thought of the facilities there.

A spokesman for the Association of Train Operating Companies said the stations surveyed were among the most in need of improvement.
