Part of a railway station was closed off after rubble started falling from the clock tower next door.
Sussex Police cordoned off part of Eastbourne railway station, in Terminus Road, and the tower for safety reasons at 12.20pm on Saturday.
A Sussex Police spokesman said although part of the concourse was cordoned off, services had not been affected and that no one had been injured by any of the falling rubble.
He said: “We closed the area off, together with the highways department until we can get a scaffolding tower in there to put it right.
“Traffic is very light anyway because of the weather so it's not been badly affected.”
