Leon Knight today pledged to get back on the goal trail after signing a new deal with Albion.

The 22-year-old striker scored just four times last season as the Seagulls escaped relegation from the Coca-Cola Championship.

But Knight, who put pen to paper on a one-year extention to his contract yesterday, aims to rediscover his scoring touch.

Knight netted 25 goals in 44 League games when Albion were promoted from what is now League One in 2003-04, finishing the campaign with the play-off final winner against Bristol City at the Millennium Stadium.

?He said: "I want to get back to scoring goals regularly. Last season was an average one for me, although I still enjoyed it.

"I have a target in mind but I'll keep that figure to myself.

"The manager (Mark McGhee) believes I can hit the heights next season."

Knight agreed to stay because he wanted to taste Championship football again and he believes Albion are on the up.

He said: "Even though we haven't got the stadium, this club belongs in the division.

"We have got old heads and young players who have played a full season in the Championship and helped us stay up. That is an achievement as big as winning promotion. And the majority of those young players played the season before when we were promoted.

"It can only get better for us and we are all looking forward to playing in the big stadiums."

Knight is delighted months of negotiation hhave been resolved.

He said: "I am relieved all the talk and speculation is over."

Knight, who joined from Chelsea two years ago, has no regrets about leaving the Premiership champions.

He said: "It's been enjoyable, finishing the top scorer, getting promoted in my first season and being a part of a team that survived in the Championship have been good experiences.

"I am now looking forward to a break to re-charge my batteries and getting back for pre-season to do my best for Albion."
