Norwegian soprano Elizabeth Norberg-Schultz is a singer who is going places.

Revered in her home country, where she has just been honoured as a Knight of the Order of Oalv, she made her Glyndebourne debut singing Mimi in Puccini's La Boheme.

On Saturday, she came to St George's Church in Brighton to sing for a charity concert to raise money for the Niemann Pick Disease Group - the disease is a rare genetic condition.

Accompanied by pianist Iain Burnside, a noted performer and broadcaster, Norberg-Schultz sang Schubert, Schumann, Bellini and Verdi.

She certainly has an affinity with Schubert and her diction in German is exemplary.

Her rendition of his Ave Maria was both breathtaking and poignant.

She has a wonderful bell-like quality to her voice, used to the full for sustained top notes.

The concert, attended by the Norwegian ambassador, was part of a series of events organised by the Sussex-based charity group, which has so far raised more than £86,000.
