Wayne Alexander has been handed a second crack at a world title.

The Hailsham-based fighter will take on Takaloo for the vacant WBU light-middleweight crown at York Hall, Bethnal Green, on Friday September 10.

Alexander, with 20 wins from 22 professional bouts, fought Harry Simon for the WBO title three years ago, losing in five rounds.

However, he put up an impressive display that night after taking the fight at 24 hours' notice and it is a big surprise he has had to wait so long for a chance to be crowned world champion.

A showdown with Margate-fighter Takaloo has long been talked about but many people feared the contest would never take place.

Alexander, the former British and European light-middleweight champion, will be making his first appearance since February when he beat journeyman Howard Clarke in just two rounds.

That followed a shock defeat at at the hands of Delroy Mellis in Cardiff in December.
