I work at a company based on the Old Steine in Brighton and our offices overlook the square where Roy Gee's band played (The Argus, August 11).
We've been here for more than ten years now and the band is quite a recent addition to the local soundscape. Last year, they agreed they would play with minimal amplification and only from 12-1pm and 2-3.30pm.
This year they gradually increased the volume and the length of time they were playing. It was so loud I was unable to hear my desk phone and I sit ten feet from the windows.
It was only as a last resort that those of us who were most affected made a complaint to the council.
We were as surprised as anyone when the council banned them. Some of our colleagues did in fact enjoy the music and all we wanted was for them to return to the original agreement of minimal amplification.
I'm sure as professional musicians they are capable of understanding what this means.
