I am disgusted at Brighton and Hove City Council. My nan has spent 18 years at Theobald House in Blackman Street and since my grandfather passed away this year she has been living there alone.

We are trying to get her into sheltered accommodation, which is a process in itself and in the meantime she is stuck at Theobald House.

Despite being a joyful place in its early years, it is now a den for youths, drug addicts and generally unsightly individuals.

The flats used to be secured by an intercom system that has been broken since last year.

Anyone can walk into the building and frequently does. Only a few weeks ago, a resident of the flats found a man sleeping in her front door area.

My nan is an elderly citizen who has worked exceptionally hard in her life and I find it criminal that she should be subjected to this sort of lifestyle. While I know the council has a hard job, I find their treatment and care for the elderly population outrageous and I feel more should be done.

I am only thankful my grandad is no longer around to witness the way his wife is being treated by a country he spent his younger years fighting to protect.
