Like Ms J White (Letters, June 12) I received a letter from the Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath.

It referred to my recent request for a change of appointment date and informed me that my new appointment would be on September 30, replacing my existing one on July 22 - a difference of two months.

I notice Ms White was told the letter had been posted on May 29. This was a Saturday and the appointments department don't work on Saturdays - as I discovered when I tried to investigate my mysterious change of appointment.

A few weeks ago, my consultant requested two appointments for me - one for a scan and the second one with him to discuss the results.

The date I was given for the scan was two weeks after the consultation appointment. This necessitated numerous telephone calls from me to get the correct appointment.

When I eventually managed to contact someone in the appointments department, I was told the problem was "with our IT and the computer sending out the wrong letters and we don't have time to check everything".

I now find my appointment has indeed been put back ten weeks because the consultant is going on holiday during the time of my original appointment in July and apparently September 30 is the next available date. The purpose of my appointment in July was to see if I need an operation following three months' treatment. I now have to wait until the end of September to find out.

What a shambles.
