Well done to Ed Ellson for taking his school to task about their hypocritical uniform policy.

That a male wearing a skirt should still merit so much attention in the 21st Century shows the idiocy of stereotypical gender roles.

Ellson is radical and brave, and, should he require any support, should look to the Victoria and Albert Museum's publication Men In Skirts which documents men in skirts throughout history, across cultures and in contemporary society.

What are Ringmer Community College afraid of when they segregate a student from his peers because he has challenged sartorial expectations?

Society as we know it will not crumble because of the cut of a piece of cloth.

Acts of non-conformism and transgression, can, however, disrupt conventional and outdated attitudes and it is for this that Ellson's simple act of rebellion should be applauded.
