The recent excellent coverage of the very moving D-Day celebrations left me wondering if I was the only person to receive a decoy postcard?
Just before D-Day I received a picture post card from Sandwich in Kent sent by a Canadian soldier I had met briefly while doing voluntary canteen work.
At the time, being intensely patriotic, I thought he was an idiot. Particularly as my name was Suhr and some people thought I was German.
I am, in fact, half Danish and have a family tree dating from 1615 to prove it.
I now find out none of the forces went from Kent but a lot of ideas and schemes were formulated to give the impression they would. Was I singled out or did other people receive such communications?
