Daisy Burgess cannot have met Father Andrew of St George's or looked in any depth at the diversity and sheer number of individuals and groups using the community centre located in the church crypt.
Fr Andrew is an extremely sane man who was realistic enough to see that the church itself would not survive in Kemp Town without making greater use of the building and the land upon which it stands.
The "dungeon" that was built as a result of his vision is a bright, well-lit area comprising a thriving cafe (recently extended), a meeting hall and a number of smaller rooms and offices.
Later this year a community nursery is being opened and the recent closure of the local post office has led to proposals for this facility to be included in the development. If this is the work of a madman, let's have lots more like him.
If Daisy does not like what he does, she can always come to our church or the centre and see what a wonderful multi-cultural, multi-racial and totally inclusive community we have. Heaven forbid, she might even find she likes it.
