I read about Brighton fire station's turntable ladder answering an emergency call in

Portslade while the hydraulic platform based at Hove fire station which is a similar machine was on station at the time. Where is the logic in this?

The machine at Hove is worth about £300,000, seven years old and now sits and waits until it's needed at a fire.

The operators of this machine, most of them with 20+ years' experience, are told to promote fire safety by installing smoke alarms in the community and going into public houses to give out beer mats with logos on.

What are the people of Hove and Portslade paying council tax for?

There will always be fires and we need firefighters and their machines to put out fires, not beer mats.
